Turbine System
Is it possible to install a water turbine in an underground river to generate power?
I dont know how fast the water flows but it would be in a system of underground cinotes.Like in Cancun Mexico. I know that the turbines used on some dams only spin around 180 rpm. What is the minimum speed needed to produce usable current on a 120/240 volt system 3 phase?
It is possible, but there would have to be quite a bit of usable power in the flowing water to make it practical for commercial use. That is, if the water is flowing slowly, it would have to be very deep to be of practical use.
There are 2 ways to overcome slow flow:
1. Gear up the turbine into the generator.
2. Make a generator with enough poles so ~1 RPM would produce 60 Hz.

Coupled neutronics/thermal-hydraulics analyses of SuperCritical Water Reactor. $49.99 The Super Critical Water Reactor (SCWR) is a next generation reactor concept with system simplification and high thermal efficiency. The current study develops analysis capability for the US Reference SCWR design by extending existing LWR analysis codes and studies SCWR behaviors under steady state, burnup and transient conditions. An extended version of PARCS that can analyze SCWR in steady state is developed first. A single assembly model simulating an infinite lattice of assemblies is used in this study. The results show that the moderator heating leads to a more axially symmetric effective moderator density, and has a significant impact on the axial power shape. Sensitivity calculations are performed to show how the assembly responds to perturbations in assembly power, mass flow rate, bypass ratio and heat transfer coefficient. To study flow distribution between assemblies and transient in SCWR, a coupled PARCS/RELAP5 code package specialized for current SCWR design is developed used in the rest of the study with a whole core model. Flow reversal in downward flowing moderator channels is discovered in steady state, bumup and transient scenarios. It is due to the positive flow rate feedback to flow density change necessary for pressure balance. Choosing different orifice sizes based on corresponding assembly powers can prevent the reversal. The results show that the reversed moderator flow accompanies a large axial power peak at the bottom of the core and reduces the core reactivity. A burnup calculation shows that under the current design parameters, the reactor cannot sustain criticality during full cycle and a moderator flow reversal can develop during burnup. A SCWR system model is developed which adds the balance-of-plant to the core model. Three transients are studied: loss of feedwater, loss of off-site power and loss of turbine load without scram. This thesis develops an approach to provide robust ride through for DFIG wind generation systems during various types of voltage sag events.;State of the art accommodations for voltage sag ride-through are reviewed and their shortcomings, including excessive spikes in torque and current, or non-compliance with grid codes are noted. A dynamic model of the classical DFIG wind turbine is used to develop analytical solutions to voltage sag response, and verified through simulation. Stator flux is identified as the central state affecting the machine response during sag events.;In order to obtain regulation of stator flux, the DFIG architecture is augmented with a series grid side converter (SGSC). Two topologies for realizing series connection are considered, including use of a series injection transformer (TI-SGSC) or opening the Y point of the machine and connecting it directly to the series inverter (YP-SGSC).;A SGSC control strategy that enables balanced sag ride through by bringing the stator flux into compatibility with the grid voltage during the sag events is developed. The electromagnetic torque and electrical power production are scaled directly with the stator flux, preventing undesirable conditions across the system. The flux is brought back to nominal value upon resolution of the sag. This control strategy is further extended to eliminate the undesirable negative sequence stator flux components during unbalanced sag events.
