How many miles will a diesel engine last?

I’m looking at buying a vehicle for work and I have found a 1994 Chevy Dually Diesel engine with 240,000 miles on it. They are asking $6,000 and I’ve heard that diesel engines last forever so I was wanting some expert advice!!! Ohh yeah I am getting the truck to drive to a coal mines and I live in an area with a lot of snow and mountains. Thanks

It really depends on the history of the vehicle, the ownership and maintenance. GM Diesels have been known to go for quite a while, as was mentioned above….

If you run your car out of fuel, you just put more in… If you run a mid 90’s model diesel out of fuel, you are now looking at al least a few hundred dollars to re-prime the injectors (a cool hundred for parts if you do it yourself)

Just an example and something to think about as far as ownership… Also at 200k+ there could be a host of issued not cared for… Might be the reason why they are selling, eh?
